Public Notices: Dry Hydrant

Title

Dry Hydrant

Notice Type

Public Notice

Notice Date

7/2/2007

Body

A dry hydrant provides a system to deliver water from a pond or creek.
The pipe is placed into the water supply for access by the emergency fire truck / tanker and is designed with a weighted filter at the end. The filtered end is submerged in the water supply and a fire hose fitting is installed on land portion of the dry hydrant. The land portion is buried so that only the dry hydrant end is above ground. Pumps on the fire truck / tanker hook into the end of the dry hydrant and begin to pull water from the water supply.
If you want to help your neighbors, possibly save a life or home, consider having a dry hydrant installed at no cost to the landowner.
Contact your local fire department or Girard Township for further information.
